Hello,

Can someone give me advice about my utility room i would like to install a window in the roof to allow more light into the utility room and back living room as its a terraced house i don't need anything that opens just a pain of glass basically to allow some extra light in.

Could i do this myself ? if yes what's entailed

If i need to get it done what's the rough cost ?

Please see attached pictures.

Because of the felt on the roof, it's likely to be below 17.5 degrees. You will need a roof window (such as Velux etc..) to install, but more importantly, a flashing kit to work to such a low pitch. Also, it's likely to refelt the roof.

To shove a pane of glass in is not realistic. To do it cheaply, is again not realistic.

Ok 2nd plan what about changing to polycarbonate roofing ?

Yes Andy that is correct, i have built my own verandah so have some experience.

I doubt it would be as cheap as running a couple of led daylight bulbs for several years.

'Ready to install' rooflights are available at a lot of websites so you should easily be able to fit it yourself.
