The fence at the bottom of the garden has seen better days. Rather than replace it, I'm trying to talk the wife into maybe putting some sort of hedge in. Any advice on something easily looked after and suitable for the birdlife our garden attracts.

Beech hedging, I think always looks very nice. You can get bare rooted plants on Ebay at about £10 for 25 three feet high plants. But bare rooted plants are only available during the winter when the plants are dormant. I got some about two years ago and they are doing really well.

The taller the plant, the older it is so the more expensive they become.

You may still get them dormant but will need to act quick and get them planted quickly if available.

Alternatively you can get rootball plants but they are costly :(
