I have an old boiler, a Worcester Danesmoor 15/19, gravity Hot Water, who was born on the 24/9/91  who was due to be replaced a few years ago, but due to one thing and another this never happened

Last year the control box went on her, so replaced this, and while we were at it, also replaced the Photocell, electrodes and nozzle, and up until now, she's been brilliant.

Ok, two separate faults, might be related, but not sure. First one started a while ago, sounds like air or water bubbling around the back of the boiler, around the flue area (flue goes up through roof) not stopped her from working just very noisy. Ok new fault started yesterday, boiler lights up ok, runs for a while, sometimes 15-30 minutes, sometimes for only 2-3minutes, then it sounded like the flame was going out, and then the boiler locks out. Today sat down with her, and when it sounded like the flame had gone out, pulled the photocell out, and there was no flame.
If you turn the stat down quick enough she doesn't lock out, and then if you wait long enough, you can hear a little click, turn the stat up and she runs again, turn the stat up before you hear the little click, and she will lock out.

Any ideas? Apart from a new boiler  which hopefully will be arriving about Sept, just need to nurse her through until then.

Thanks for reading :)

It sounds like the Solenoid Coil on the Oil Pump is breaking down, I'll bet it's a Danfoss BFP Pump. The coil is replaceable using a 4mmm Allen key
coil unpluggs, new one on in reverse order, noise in Heat Exch could be air? check the Header Tank in the Attic, it should be about Half full with water, check the arm on the Ball-valve is free, and that wter runs when the arm is pushed down

Hi Boilerman, Thanks for that,

According to manual, Oil Pump should be a BFP11 L3, pump fitted to boiler is a BFP21 L3, so assume she's gone wrong before. I have a second hand Oil Pump BFP11 L3 in the garage, will this solenoid coil fit the BFP21?

And lastly, but most importantly, is the Solenoid coil the fitting on the front of the pump as you look at it? Might help to know which bit it is, before I pull it off

Looking at the front of the pump (the bit that says BFP etc etc) the col is the black plastic bit with the brass nut on top, (4mm allenkey will undo the nut. the BFP21L3 is a "Service" pump so yes you have had a pump previously, actually the BFP21L3 is better on this particullar boiler than the original 11L3 as the pressure &vacuum ports are easily accesible as is the pressure adjustment screw the coils are standard accros the range let me know how you get on

Of course I'll let you know, I'll be back on here asking for extra help

Sorry if you've answered this already and I've missed it, but can I use the BFP11 solenoid on the BFP21 pump?

If yes, will change her tonight when the kids are in bed, can't do it during the day, as I end up with too many helpers

Yes you can use the coil on your spare pump I know what you mean by helpers! the kids are gone now, but I've got 2 Greyhounds that like to stick there noses in now!!

I've got 2 Greyhounds that like to stick there noses in now!!

Aww, Bless, I bet they can be more trouble than the kids when they try

Well, managed to sidetrack the kids with Baby Looney Tunes and a McDonalds

The solenoid has been replaced, and so far, so good, she's working :)

Will keep everything crossed and let you know later on how she is :)

Thank you, thank you , thank you, thank you BoilerMan2 :D

Left her on all night (Shush, don't tell the global warming brigade  ) and she worked all night, Bless Her, she's fixed :D
