Hi-
We are shortly going to be re-roofing our terraced house - a little family project. :)
The adjacent property steps up due to the hill we are built on and has its own soffit and bargeboards finishing off its roof elevation, they are in poor condition. Access to these elements by the owner is only possible via our premises and roof.
We proposed an opportunity, while we had scaffold erected, for their contractor to carry out repairs before we completed our roof works.
They have now come back with dates outside those we proposed and when our scaffold will no longer be present.
Having offered the oportunity, it is a pain that they are now saying they will undertake the works when our roof is completed with all possible damage issues therein.
Has anyone else had this problem, or could anyone suggest what steps we should take to minimise and ensure they are liable for any damage they cause, before they start....

If you're going to give them permission to do this, then get a full condition report and some photos for your roof while your scaffolding is up. Get them to sign an agreement accepting liability for any damage (though I think they would be liable anyway).

How long after your job is finished would they want to start? Would they save money if you shared the cost of the scaffolding and left it up for longer?

Disclaimer - I haven't done any of this.

Cheers
Richard

Thanks for the input Richard, will revert to owner's agent requesting a more formal agreement before any of their works are commenced, possibly without our scaffold. So annoying that they could not get someone to do it in the timeframe we offered.
Regards
Derek
