After neighbour had new roof last year - Tiles falling off my roof in recent winds

Waw, looks really naff. Hope you can get it sorted correctly...

What does your neighbour say?
They'll help with any claim against the contractor :) Things are friendly at the moment. I'm giving benefit of the doubt and assuming they didn't really keep a close eye on the job and I'd rather fall out with a cowboy contractor than a friendly neighbour. - I'm just hoping the legal options don't force my hand. I also suspect they'd be prudent to get their new roof inspected too but I don't want to muddy the waters right now

Does your insurance have legal cover?
Interesting - there is Legal Protection Cover and it looks like it is separate from the main policy. (a kind of multi-policy bundle). And it has a free legal advice line - I'll give them a ring.

A long time ago I had issues with a horrendous re-roofing job that I ended up taking the contractor to court over. As part of the case the local building control department helped by sticking their oar in, as did the technical department of the tile manufacturer, both calling the job a crock..

Incidentally I won, he transferred his assets to his wife, folded his co and set up again the next day, I got nothing.. but that's by the by and par for the course; main point is if you want to take someone to task, there are various options for professional opinions available as input on the quality of the job

I hear you. We've literally this week managed to get high court bailiffs to go after a tradesman that took our deposit and pretty much stopped working on the job. 3-month process from "Letter before Action" to "Notice of Enforcement". But that was quicker due to a default judgement. So really didn't need to go through all this faff again for 2nd time in my life. Esp as this looks more complicated.

In this case the roofer is a sole trader, so that might help should things go that far (as I suspect they will)?

I will also at some point ask the neighbour if BS5534 is specified on any paperwork. But waiting for more info from my roofer first.

unfortunately I don't hold out much hope of him being able to rectify the problem if that's how he left it in the first place!

I suspect he sent some juniors around and couldn't be arsed to supervise the work. We shall see. Getting a survey done now - my neighbour is too. I'll give the roofer one chance to rectify it, but like you I don't hold out much hope , but giving them a chance should then put me in a stronger position if I then have to get in a trusted roofer and chase cowboy/neighbour for all damages & costs.

I also think that building control should have been involved as both houses are mid-terrace so roof was more than 25% of envelope etc? I just search council website and nothing turned up but I'll ask neighbour to check.

I believe that's the basis on which BC were able to justify getting involved on my job but it's been so long I can't quite remember. Probably worth calling them to ask; departmental priorities might have changed somewhat in the last ten years of cuts!

They are really only interested in insulation and wether ridge are mechanically fixed .
