i have stripped the wall paper from my hall, stairs and landing using a steam stripper and scraper. The walls surface is surprisingly good underneath and I won't need to get any re-skimming done (yay)!!

How am I best removing any residue from the wallpaper paste that is still on the surface before I apply my paint?

I've just done the same as you, and all I did was wash the walls down with a solution of sugar soap and gave the wall a scrape at the same time to remove the paste sludge. Some people then wash the walls down with clean water but that's a matter of preference.
