toasty

So who's got AC in their house then?

I do, it's on now, and I don't know what I'd do without it (I really feel the heat)

Just one of those DIY fit B&Q jobbies, 4 years old now though and still going strong, money VERY well spent I think.

I have the same one toasty, but we dont use it in the summer, it doesn't work very well (well we did put it in the conservatory i suppose, what did we expect!!) It does a good job of heating though, even on the coldest days.

When I fitted it I bent the pipes back inside the unit, so they come out on the right. Its the only way it could work in its location.

In my own home though I will seriously consider a "proper" air conditioner if/when i have the money. I too feel the heat, I cant sit in the sun for long.

I'm sure I saw an advert on telly the other day saying that homebase are selling portable air conditioners for £100

I'm considering one for the bedroom, as I hate trying to sleep when it's as warm as this

I know what you mean, it's good and works well and was quite cheap.

...but next time, I'll go for a professional one and a few of units throughout the house.

The trouble with the one I have is that you need a fan unit in the garden for each unit in the house, so the garden can soon end up looking like the back of a supermarket / data centre!!.
I understand professional ones just need 1 (big) fan unit

Here is my front garden unit, 1 is bad enough, I couldn't really imagine littering the place with them

Wow! £100 is cheap.

I paid maybe £300 for this, but I've seen them on ebay for less than £200.

I bet they are doing a roaring trade at the moment.

I remember fitting mine in the middle of a really really hot day, it was terrible, but worth it in the end.

stuck mine on brackets on the wall, because its above a manhold cover where its mounted. Its still only about a foot above the ground though.

You sold the jag yet? (jag_ebay)

And a cheaper way to do proper house air con is to have one indoor cooler with ductwork to each room - easy to do in the loft to the bedrooms, and if you have a crawlspace under the ground floor. The americans do it this way, with a heater module (or furnace, whatever) built into the system so they dont need wet central heating.

Got mine on, double distributer in garden room and single, simular to Toasty,s, in bedroom. 8) 8) 8)

Yeah sold the jag a few months back.
Long story though, managed to get a good price for it (it's a 1995 X300 XJ12)
Agreed to deliver it to the buyer as he works in Reading (so do I) On the way up the motorway the oil cooler split, and I had to get the AA to take me home on a flat bed (2 tonne car is too heavy for them to tow)

A right PITA!

Gone now though, but I do miss it - still don't have anything to replace her with, we had a good 15,000 miles together.

Oh right! :)

Sorry, I thought you meant on the other parts of my website.

toasty - is it straight forward to put in? Do you know how heavy the outside unit is roughly and do they have to line up together? I'm guessing they have flexible pipe, if so, how long is it?

depends on which one you buy..
the B&Q ones come with a 4M hose I think, but I'm sure that you can get extension hoses for them..
according to the link higher up, there's a maximum height difference between condenser and evaporator of 1M, but that can't be right, you'd have to mount the outside unit about 3 foot off the ground to get the inside bit at a useable height..
