Hi, I'v got air in the hot water loop that goes into the hot water cylinder. Its part of a coal fired back boiler. The pump is only on the ch loop, so does this loop normally just work by gravity? any ideas how to get it working after having drained it down fully?

thanks

Check for any air vents
Check for any possible high points on for air to collect fit a vent if needed If you have a tap stat drain and remove and clear any debris

Yes it`s gravity primaries to the hot water cylinder..you may also have a primatic cylinder  .we need to know if there is a *small* water cistern (tank) in your roof as well as the larger one for your water to the taps ..have a look @ the stickys and subjects on the forum if you`re not too sure .....then post back ;)

Yes there is a small header tank and the system is definetly indirect. I've heard about putting a hose on the expansion pipe for the CH header tank and kind of back filling the tank, and pushing air, debris out this way.

Is this an option?

cheers

That`s an option, as is doing same via drain cock near boiler if fitted ;) good luck
