Hello,

Im just after a bit of advice before I go and do anything. Im currently replacing my kitchen on the house today Ive knocked the wall between the kitchen and dining room (non load bearing stud wall) and started removing the existing kitchen.

On the outside wall of the kitchen are two airbricks each about 15cm high by a brick width (like these ones).

They both go straight into the kitchen (they are not venting the cavity) but there are cupboards about 20cm in front of them and the previous owner has blocked them with cardboard.

Ive read that the new eu rules say not to have uncontrolled venting, but how does this stand with gas appliances? My new kitchen will only have a gas hob.

Would it be safe to block them? The house was built in the 1980’s and now has A rated windows and has cavity wall insulation.

thanks in advance

Have you got trickle vents in the windows?
Do you have an externally venting cooker hood?

If yes to both then you can probably block 'em up. If you're unsure cover them with a hit'n'miss vent.

Hi thanks for the reply.

Ive got a cooker hood but no trickle vents. Guessing its best to be safe and leave alone.

Thanks again
