We have an optima based wired alarm, fitted by myself just over 2 years ago. The controllers, door sensors, phone dialer and siren are all fine. The PIRs are giving me major grief with false alarms. We go months without a problem, then a sunny day arrives and we get another false alarm. Sometimes several in the same day! We have unobscured sunlight into two rooms, light tree shade in another, and early morning sun in a 4th. All the PIRs point into the centre of the house and away from the windows, but every time a sunny day arrives the alarm goes off. Each time I drop the sensitivity on that sensor or change it to double knock. I'm now at the point where they don't detect people moving in the room but they still give false alarms. Also there's an open fire in the living room. The supplier sold us a "more robust sensor" for that room that would ignore the fire, but it sets it off so these days we omit that zone at night if we've had the fire lit. They were budget PIRs so I guess I got what I paid for.

So, I'm about to replace all the PIRs. I need a recommendation of what to get. Any suggestions? What's the best out there? Where should they be located in the room, and are any suitable for overnight use in a room with an open fire?

Thanks
Ant
