Alpha CD28C/Premier Pack and Gas Saver?

Hello Gents

Have started the planning phase of fitting new CH to my bungalow. I am starting with a blank page as there is no gas laid on as yet, Wales and West are due in a few weeks. I am doing the donkey work - the specialist stuff is down to a good Corgi engineer.

My Corgi mate wants me to prepare a plan - No worries, I have the pipe runs planned, rads sized, location of boiler sorted, and am making inroads on the Spec list....

The BIG question is (and the first of many I am sure) ; What Boiler?

My local plumbing suppliers are Alpha dealers - and I was considering the Alpha CD28C with Premier Pack and possibly the Gas saver. There is only my wife and I at home - no multi-demand for DHW and the pad has three beds. I would value your opinions.

If your CORGI mate is such an expert then why dont you want to take his advice on the best boiler for your requirements.

As you are not short of cash why not pay a little extra and get a Viessmann? When fitted by an approved installer they come with a five year warrantee.

My "Corgi mate" has only fitted one Alpha previously, has little knowledge about the new generation Alpha's and any associated problems and suggested I ask for opinions from the experts on this forum.

I like the assumption I am not short of cash, if that were the case I would fork out for the whole thing to be done by one firm.

Or am I wasting my time here?

We only install Alpha products and we are accredited as a Platinum installer,

Your contact should be advising you to have a CD28C EXTRA this boiler pack includes a premier pack and give you 5 years parts and labour warranty.

If he is platinum accredited this then extends to 10 years parts and labour warranty.

Dont take any notice of the snipers on this site who say that the Gassaver does not pay we on our 40th installation and everyone is delighted with the savings it provides.

i have had nothing but problems with an Alpha CB50 - but if I hadn't and seen the post above by Alphaman - that would smack me as a bit of desperatism on somebodies behalf (sales down on his targets etc) and would put me right off.

By the way - our Alpha was fitted by the builder

If you have a boiler fitted by a builder instead of a boiler engineer then you should expect problems!

However, what did you fit in the end Toptech and how has it performed over the first two years?

Finally plumped for the 28i Junior. It has worked flawlessly so far. (Touch wood). I have a combi-mate on it and had to drain down the system about 5 months ago to fit rads and refilled with inhibitor. No gunk at all in the system.

I like the simple controls, and it meets the wifes and my demands with no probs. (3 bed bungalow). Had it serviced after 14 months by a local RGI. (You will recall I did all the wet work). He only pointed out I hadn't finished all the lagging.

My only gripe is the noise of the pipes when the main toilet refills. He reckoned the Tee from the mains was too close to a second Tee to an ensuite?

All in all I would do the same again, and choose between the Worcs and the Veissmann.

By the way the neignbour went for the Alpha with with Gas Saver and hasn't yet seen a return on his investment.

If you have fitted an isolating valve in the feed to the toilet ( as required by the water regulations ) then you may find that by partially closing it you can reduce the filling noise.

alphas are a good boiler you will get a5yr warranty by fitting the prem pack but if there's only you and your wife and not high demand on the hot water maybe a 25 kw would do i've fitted a few including the flow smart model and find them to be value for money

If I remember correctly the prem pack is just the boiler jig. Is that not correct? I recall one of the Alpha centre staff telling me it was a cheap way for Alpha to get an £150 insurance premium out of clients!!!!!
