I have sanded down to the bare wood and revarnished with four coats a coffee table top i but the colour does not quite match the legs I have used Ronseal quick drying dark oak varnish and it could do with being a touch darker, is it OK to mix a little walnut coloured varnish into the dark oak to help match the colour to the legs and will there be any problems using this mix on top of the four layers of dark oak varnish that i have already put on the table.

Thanks

That should be fine. You're putting on the same type of varnish that's already there so it's just a question of matching the colour. The darker varnish will cover the lighter coats. At the risk of stating the obvious, try a small area first to check you've got the right match.

Personally, for future reference I would stain first ( you can get some wonderful effects with colour on colour ) then use clear varnish over the top, makes it easier to touch up the inevitable dink caused by a dropped cup. ;)
