painting over varnished wood

i have a tongue and grooved ceiling in my kitchen which has been varnished with a dark oak colour. without rubbing down to the bare wood is there any paint available to paint over the varnish

Your still going to have to give it a good seeing to with the abrasive paper first im afraid to provide a key.

Then youl need to use knotting on the knots.

After that you can use Dulux super grip or zamix...after that you you can coat it in whatever you want
