Aluminium kickboards and lights

Guys I've had some aluminium plinths/kickboards delivered for my kitchen. The plan was to have spotlights within the kickboard.

Problem is this kickboard isn't solid aluminium, it's a thick plastic lined with an aluminium type facing (from Howdens).

I'm concerned the heat from the spotlights won't react the best with this kickboard and melt it....would that be possible?

could you use LED type lights as they have little or no heat.
