Am I just being stupid or have I missed something?

Hello

So, I am autistic and I am disabled. So, please note that with being heavily medicated with multiple medications including morphine, my brain has these bits in time where I can’t workout the simple tasks. So please forgive my lack of explanation or too much info not required here.

So, I have probably the smallest workshop going, it’s smaller than bike sheds, just taller. Anyway, I am putting up some storage boxes for the most used screws and other bits I need often. So I brought some stackable but mountable storage bins. These found here https://www.therange.co.uk/diy/tool-storage/organisers-cases-and-shelving/storage-bin-grey#82111

I just brought the storage bins and have no back to mount them onto, but I have screwed them into the wall as seen in the pictures below. I am having problems with filling them up, I can’t put my hand in fully, so screws are only stacking in the front.

Am I being really stupid and require the back board for these or can I just screw them together stacked like in the picture?

I think you have stacked them too close to each other. I have similar bins but on a rack. The gaps between mine are an inch or so and that lets me put my hand in.

Something simple, yet never entered my brain…

Also, when you screw them to the wall, put a plate, strip of meccano like metal, large washer etc. (use 2 screws) in there first, once it becomes full of screws and you then put your hand in it you may well pull it enough to make a hole where the screw is. (i.e. it will come off the wall).

Weird timing for a discussion like this, I'm just designing some plastic labels for my bins of a similar type and printing them on my 3D printer. :)

If you're just screwing them to the wall and not stacking them you might find suitable containers in your recycling bin, ice cream tubs, cut down milk bottles, 5l containers etc

the thing about being different and the thing about learning is we all learn at different rates
within your own traits and skills you will be supper fast at what comes easy
some tasks will be ok to difficult some will seem impossible

we all need to remember we are all extremely clever and extremely stupid in equal measures with the only exception being those that think they are Superior having more off the stupid gene as there minds tend to be far more closed off to whats important in life ;)

This reminds me of being at school, last year of junior, 4 years of school teachers either telling me off for being right and argumentative to things out of my control like meltdowns, shutdowns, asthma or migraines and more. When I was in year 4, same school, a teacher completely lost control and basically beat me in front of the class, I believe I had obvious signs of being in a fight, and when my mum asked what child did this to me, you can imagine how she would react.

Anyway, the school put on a trip to the millennium dome, so, I am in year 6, in 2000 spring time I guess, after years of being put in the back of the class and forgotten about, I picket up a lot of information in areas of interest (autism plays a huge part here) and when we were nearly finished with the trip, we were told to do an I.Q. Test, and I managed to score a 177, they say Einstein had an I Q of around 160, even though he never had an official test. However the questions on this test were almost perfectly written for me, as all the answers were easy, however the teachers were not happy and basically said I cheated somehow. In the last 15 years I have come across a few old teachers from this school, and they still say I cheated. You see, if you ask me a question to do with communication like what letter comes after h, I have to sing the song in my head otherwise I have no idea.

From this, I know everyone is a genius in something, but what that something is, is something you haven’t come across yet, then keep looking.

On the upside, you are only drilling holes into OSB. Mess up the spacings- not a biggy, move the fitting and drill a new hole elsewhere. Washers will help though. The image in your link shows substantially greater gaps between the containers. Might it make sense to go horizontally rather than vertically? It might have less impact on your "worktop" space.

thats what i meant by having "closed off minds" not nessiserally " wrong " just ill informed or "ignorant" both words usually taken in a negative way but should not be as the more you learn the less "ignorant" or "ill informed" you are

as for not believing your iq score it just proves the fallibility off a system where you must comply with a very narrow definition in the middle by ill informed like minded people who think they are the clever ones where in fact they are extremly flawed in many aspects
i applaud your difference as i do others and well done on bu66ering up there brains to show the system is often very very wrong :giggle:

Otherwise known as the Dunning Kruger effect.

Thick people think they are smart, smart people are aware of their limitations.

The space I have set out for these bins means I need to have a row vertically and horizontal too.
