Hi,

I've just finished a refurb and have a little problem.
Everytime I turn a cold tap on, the boiler kicks in for a moment, and then turns itself off again. I looked at the boiler and it says DHW mode (Vaillant 838).

After a bit of reading - it seems as if I could have a 'dead leg' in my pipework.

But, we havent completely finished yet. I'm still waiting for a washing machine and dishwasher to arrive, and also, the shower hasn't been fitted (These items have caps on the pipework)

Will these be classed as 'dead legs'?

I'm only asking, as the flooring/carpets are now down, and people seem to talk about expansion vessels & non-return valves. Before I go to any extra expense/heartache - should I wait to see if installing these remaining items fixes the problem?

Also, Vaillant have told me I can enter a code into the boiler which will fix this - although I'm worried about overlooking a problem.

Otherwise HELP!

regards
Alex

ps. Sorry for a 1st post panic... :(

A dead leg is a length of pipework leading to nowhere.

They are not permitted on mains water circuits.

This boiler action is usually caused by a dead leg with some air in it.

There is a boiler setting to reduce the way it responds to a water demand.

First I would suggest you wait until the installation is completed before rushing to change anything.

Thanks Tony.

Appreciate your comments - I'll keep my fingers crossed that the addition of appliances will sort the problem out.
