I bought a TV Stand on eBay, but have decided I want to make it taller.

Each leg is supported with M8 threaded rod, screwed in at the top and bottom, I know I can buy 1m lengths of M8 rod, but I don't know what to use to replace the 630mm diameter metal legs.

Any ideas would be welcomed.

Cardboard tube sprayed silver?

Pringles tube.

Not sure you can get it 630mm diameter though? Perhaps you meant 63mm lol

I did indeed mean 63mm - lol

The problem is, the tubes would still have to support the weight of the TV?

I considered the sort of tubes you get for clothes rails, but it just seems like a ridiculously expensive idea.

What about trying to buy another stand on ebay, then cutting the legs off it

I've considered that, I was hoping to buy an identical stand, so that I could have multiple glass shelves. But ideally I'd want a tier tall enough for my PC, so it would need to be 70cm :-/

I had some massive inspiration this morning as I woke. Lego bricks? I don't know how many I'd need though, probably quite a few - lol.

I'd have a 6x6 structure around each leg (with a 2x2 hole in the middle) mainly using 2x4 bricks, 4 on each tier. I might change my mind when I can't pick up cheap bricks, but I suspect they'd comfortably support the weight?

Any thoughts?

I think you will find a cardboard tube is thicker than the ones you already have and they are very strong when used like those.

What about drainpipe/downpipe ?
spray it white then silver to match.

Because a project is fun! I've just ordered 1600 lego bricks.

1600 of those bad boys :)

I'm confident that they'll support the weight of a thick glass shelf and a TV. I just need flat pieces at the top.

I don't think I can deny that - lol - is it at least a viable idea? - lol

I've uploaded how I intend to structure the 2x4 bricks (obviously mirrored for alternate layers. The gap in the middle is a hole. Other than pressure against the glass, I'm trying to decide how to secure the leg against the glass (pressure would work though).

I'll probably need a clear varnish to improve the finish, any ideas?
