He had no right to be here, he was refused assylum so should have been refused tax payers money to pay for his flights and treatment especially as a sex offender.

It looks like a very complex and high profile case.

There was a group of refugees fleeing persecution in Sri Lanka three years ago. I can't remember where they were headed. They got into difficulty and washed up on one of the Chagos Islands, which made them our responsibility. Even though he has been turned down for asylum, he remains our responsibility until we can find another country to take him. Until then, he will remain on Diego Garcia. I suppose the government didn't want headlines about such a high profile case killing himself after finding out he had been turned down for asylum. That might be why they saved him.

oh deary deary me it is in all the papers but those dont have pay walls . i used them so nuggets like you could read them and get triggered and make your usual clown comments

The same as any asylum seeker who ends up on British territory.

We have to process them, and if asylum is refused we keep them until we can find another country to take them.

what you mean is it WAS in the papers

and the story is false, that wasnt the reason it was halted
