Angle Grinder Disc Removal?

How do I remove/replace this grinder disc?

you should have an allen key that fits into one of those 4 holes
then a lock mechanism on the grinder near the motor to stop the motor from turning, you just push that down
then turn the nut with the 4 holes in anticlockwise to undo

Thanks, what if I don't have one of those tools? Would the Allen key suffice? Also, I don't think there's a lock mechanism? Not one I can see anyway.

mine uses an allen key in the dewalt system , but i do remember the old cabled one i had did have a 2 pin spanner.
picture of the top and sides - they should be a little button , otherwise the motor will just turn when you try and do it up / un do

Unplug grinder, hold the disc, knock the centre ring anticlockwise with a punch.

Not quite, John, but it is a Wolf Sapphire grinderette and that livery I think makes it a 1972 to 1982 period tool. Might explain the condition of the nut!

pair of good gloves, unplug it - hold the grinder in one hand, hold the disc and locking nut in the other, hold down the locking button and turn it anti clockwise (I think) .

It's off, thanks. A bit of oil and a couple of whacks and it was loose. Doesn't seem to be the safest of mechanisms for securing a rapidly spinning disc though?

No worries about that one, the direction of rotation ensures the round nut can’t unscrew.
I would however, clean all of the crap away from the vent slots so the tool doesn’t overheat.....
If you’re feeling really adventurous you could open the housing behind the disc for new grease.

Now you've got it off, if you intend to use it a bit it might be worthwhile getting an M14 quick lock nut - they don't require a pin spanner and are a lot easier to release (without needing any tools). I have a Bosch SDS one on my corded grinder which makes life a lot easier. Similar products can be had from Milwaukee, Metabo, Marcrist, etc. Prices are around £10 to £18 street price

Had never heard of these before, but always have a mare with my angle grinders when trying to change the disc - so have just ordered 2 of these from Amazon. Thanks
