I have a Ariston Eurocombi sx20 mffice. about 3 weeks ago I changed an isolation valve on a pipe external to the boiler as the previous one was starting to leak. I was told to switch of the boiler, turn of the mains water supply and drain the boiler to do this - so I did :o)

since shortly after that the hot water would only come on if the central heating was on too. About a week later the hot went all together and it's cold showers all round :o(

I know nothing about boilers so I really do feel at a loss at the moment so any advice would be most welcome.

If it helps at all when I turned the mains water back on I forgot to turn the valve that increases the pressure of the boiler off. The boiler wen't all the way up to 3 bar before I caught it. When I did, I turned the valve of and decreased the pressure to its normal level of just under 2 bar.

Thanks

Daniel

Sounds like the CH / HW diverter valve in the boiler is stuck or the diaphragm has a split in it.
Complicated repair best done by heating engineer. Also, if wrong diagnosis, you waste more time / money getting the right one.

Thanks. If that ws the problem how muh do you think that i'd have to pay for the repair including the part?

Thanks again

Prices are variable:

Local guy just changing the diaphragm and being lucky or not bothering about other bits which may leak, £50.

Yellow pages Co man changing whole diverter and pressure relief valve, cos you opened it so it'll leak, and isolating valves cos they always leak, maybe £350.

Expect to be told you need a new boiler cos yours is old and leaky. Inadequate cheap job £900 up, competent job maybe £1500 - £4500.

If it was my own boiler it would cost me about a fiver.
