Agreed that 'from day one' is not a good idea, but given that those at the bottom tend to get abused the most work wise then maybe a staggered approach as to the length of time required to attain protections?
What is the issue is how employee rights are addressed, but in order to be fair employers interests must also be considered...
I recall a mock industrial dispute lesson at school where the starting premise was that employers want as much work done as possible for the lowest wages...
And the employees/unions want to do as little work as possible for a high wage...
The simplistic answer was to compromise.
Because basically without fair and adequate checks and balances, at any given time one side or the other will take the p*ss if they can get away with it!
Everybody cheering the fact that employees can be dismissed UNFAIRLY in the first 6 months. Some of them want to be able to treat employees UNFAIRLY for even longer
