Another gem on eBay

I cant see a problem with it either. how many 240V extension leads do you see with black flex, white flex, orange flex etc. B&Q also sell ext leads with yellow arctic flex fitted with BS1363 plugs.

And I once rewired a portable light, also yellow, and 240V, with a longer piece of yellow flex and a BS 1363..

There is nothing wrong, illegal, dangerous or non-BS7671 compliant with that whatsoever.

Yellow flex means that the flex is yellow, that's all.

Orange is the defacto for caravan hookups.

Although his colour choice is not really an issue, his cable size is........

Should be a minimum of 2.5 to comply to bs7671.

Possibly to do with cable length
Page 192 in the regs has notes on the extension cord however it is normal for the site to not supply the hookup cable, what gets plugged in is anyones guess.

why? 1.5mm in free air is 22A..

Yep, but there is a table in the section that covers caravans and caravan parks that states the minimum cables sizes for each size of hookup.

A 16amp hookup has a minimum of 2.5mm.

That is where the regs contradict themselves, one says 25m maximum (not sure this is actually a reg or just advice) and another one says 25m+/-2m. But lets face it, if someone wants their caravan somewhere away from the power source they will cascade leads...

Hi Col, check 708.512.2 and notes at bottom of next page.

cheers

708.512.2 External influences

Electrical equipment installed outside in caravan parks shall comply with at least the following external influences:

(i) Presence of water: AD4 (splashes), IPX4 in accordance with BS EN 60529

(ii) Presence of foreign solid bodies: AE2 (small objects), IP3X in accordance with BS EN 60529

(iii) Mechanical stress: AG3 (high severity), IK08 in accordance with BS EN 62262.

and the note at the bottom of the page ( relates to a different reg but I'll include it anyway )
NOTE: The preferred method of supply is by means of underground distribution circuits.

so what does any of that have to do with the flex for the hookups for a caravan or tent?
