another light switch question

well if you use only the red this will send a switched live up to the light dump the black.
at this light mains in and mains out with the red in the switched live terminal, simple.
at the second light, switch wire connected to C & L1 from the perm live terminal and switched live terminal of the light, then a link of cable from C to C on two gang switch. strappers connected L1 & L2 both switches one core used from single switch term C up to that light. cant explain it any simpler if this is how the lights are wired i.e. loop in

You need to ID the strappers - the conductors between each switch - and that will give you correct 2-way operation.

i'm obviously not cut out to be an electrician.... :(

I do hate it when I can't do something

I have id'd the cables, and tried pretty much every thing you guys have said - but still can't get them how I want

also, I tried connecting the two coms together as instructed by fireman - and all that did was turn both lights on from one rocker on the double switch.

and when you say, dump the black - dump it where?

right know when you tried it and both lights came on when you connected two coms together you need to swap C & L1 in the switch (the one where you are not using L2) the perminent live was in L1 not C, see.

in a word, no

I've been away all weekend so haven't tried, I am still in the same situation - both lights work as expected from the double switch, and the single switch works as expected as long as the other switches are off. The problem still arrises when I want to turn the light off from the single switch that has been turned on by the double switch.

just to confrim what i've done;
switched live into com, live into L1 - wire link from L1 to com on the other side of the switch. L1 and L2 on strapper cables go to L1 and L2 at the single switch. Swithced live into com and the other live.........? is a mystery.

you dont need the other one, if it doesnt work swap them over one must be unused at the single switch tho.

so should I just end that connection with a chocblok, and leave it in the box?

hoorah!!! :D

can't beleive that leaving a wire un-connected has fixed it!!

anyway, thanks for all the help

I got lots of brownie points from my gf too 8)
