The whole slaughter business is cruel and painful to the animal, so why do you focus your ire on the religion bit? Seems a bit fake and selective to me.
It may seem selective to you, my reason is simple. I love animals and as a person that rescues greyhounds and volunteers at a donkey sanctuary shows what you are saying is simply trolling.

The right to demand money for a religion I do not believe in.
The money is "demanded" for repairs to a building, not religion
Interfering in government and the making of laws.
They aren't elected to the HoL, no one is. Independent minded members of the HoL can only be a good things (especially given the country's slide into authoritarianism) same with hereditary peers. Just look at the time served politicians who get into the Lords. Or wealthy donors.

Preventing me buying ice-cream after 4pm on Sunday from my local supermarket.
They only do that because the law lets them, not because of direct control over secular laws.
Then there's education, Anglican or Catholic Madrassas shouldn't be a thing.
Lots of Musslims go to Catholic schools
But mostly I get annoyed by people assuming that their particular delusion deserves respect. They deserve my tolerance as long as they keep it to themselves but respect has a wider meaning that religion doesn't deserve.
You misunderstand respect, Freedom of religion is a fundamental human right. That's not the same as stuffing it into your face.

You only care about the cruelty to slaughtered animals, of which there is a lot during the whole slughter process, when associated with religion? I would say faux and naive as well as selective concern.

Just another lowly Muslim basher.

Trouble is, this is what we see when when see a cow happily grazing on grass in a field. ;)

Halal means ‘permissible’ in Arabic. For meat to be halal, conditions include:
  • A Muslim must carry out the slaughter
  • The animal must be alive and healthy at the point of slaughter
  • A religious dedication (called tasmiya or shahada) must be spoken.
Importantly, many Muslims accept pre-stunning – provided it’s reversible and doesn’t kill the animal.
In fact, around 88% of halal meat in the UK comes from animals that were pre-stunned.

Kosher means ‘fit’ or ‘pure’ in Hebrew. For meat to be kosher, animals must be slaughtered using shechita, a method with strict requirements:
  • The animal must be healthy and uninjured
  • The slaughter must be carried out by a trained Schochet (religious slaughterer)
  • A razor-sharp knife (chalaf) is used to make the cut.
Under kosher rules, animals can’t be stunned before slaughter. If they are, the meat is no longer kosher.
A sensible post to be commended, since it is clear and impartial.

Un-stunned Halal (12%) is on the rise ( growing 20% YoY) (as is Kosher 1 - 1.8%), which is troubling for those who feel religion should have no place in animal processing and should generally reflect the beliefs of the intended consumer. I think I take that view, and that of the Secular society. Anyone who has had sedation knows that you don't feel pain (99.999%) of the time. The less you get, the greater the risk of pain.

If you are unconscious you are unaware of anything much. Once the throat is cut, you will go into coma fairly quickly, probably under 90 seconds. Is it so hard in a modern society for religious groups to limit the numbers purely to their own consumers and stop trying to push their practices to be mainstream, when clearly it is less humane?

I'd be less concerned if the percentage was under 10% with the intent, that it is targeting specific consumers. When 70% of lamb is slaughtered Halal, something is wrong.

Biker boy is trying to push the false belief that meat from ordinary British slaughterhouses becomes inhumane if a prayer is said in it.

Seems you need to read up on the subject of reversible stunning as well as the increasing amount of un stunned halal.

No doubt you’ll have the last word and lock this thread.

When you buy meat in your local supermarket that is marked Halal, it has come from a normal British supermarket, stunned and killed in the normsl British way. It had a prayer recited in the slaughterhouse. There is nothing more or less humane about it than any other British slaughterhouse.

You want to wave your ghoulish rumours to feed the false belief that Muslims are in some way crueller to animals thsn other meat-eaters.

You skirt away from the fact that 100% of Kosher meat is slaughtered unstunned.

They (Muslim haters) have been trying to push that nonsense for several posts and not in just this thread. One even tried to pass off obscure branded products as halal supermarket branded products, because someone had superimposed the supermarket name on them.

Despicable attempt at promoting muslim hatred and Muslim lies

1% is Kosher, 70% of lamb is Halal, 12% of Halal is un-stunned. 100% of Halal must be done by a Muslim and the stunning must reversible.

I’d prefer religion had no place is the process and the slaughter performed with the strongest stun possible.

I think I can tolerate a very small %age being done according to religious practices if it’s such a deal breaker for them. But I’d support banning it.
