Nobody said the deal would instantly solve the small boat issue either immediately or totally.

As for your link, it is an example of 1 crime committed by a foreigner. Whilst a terrible thing, it’s not the biggest problem in France or here.

The one in one out had the potential to be effective. But it has two flaws:
- They are deported back to France, which is where they were before they attempted the illegal crossing. So there is no down side to attempting the crossing.
- There is no commitment from France to do anything when they return. So they can try again.

If they were sent a bit further away and the country receiving them had an obligation to process their application under the 3rd country rules, then it might work.

meanwhile more have arrived this year to date than the whole of last year and crowing that the numbers are just 900 short of 2022, isn't going to wash.

Greece solved this problem differently and there isn't much cooperation with Turkey in their strategy. Maybe time to withhold further payments until we get some results.

One of the defendants is afaik a former MP and justice / cabinet minister ?? ( labour )

Fraud is ref’ to this covid caper and alleged money laundering
