I have a standard cooker hood in brown and we now have a silver cooker.I will have to dismantle and move some newly painted cupboards and cornices to change the hood even if I can find a direct replacement.
Any chance of painting it silver in situ and getting a decent finish?

it will very likely be dirty and greasy, you will have to get it scrupulously clean before painting.

silver paint looks very rough if brushed, you will find it very difficult to spray indoors without getting overspray everywhere. I would take it off.

you can get spray primers for plastic (as used for car bumpers) and ordinary car paint over that.
