As it says really are the nuts on heating pumps a standard size? and if so what size is it ? and where is the best place to get a suitable spanner?

If you are referring to the nut that joins to the pump flange, then it is 52mm I think (on domestic size pumps). Screwfix sell a "pump nut spanner".

18 inch stillsons  BUT get a cheapo pair . They will just open enough to do an immersion heater too  and of course grip any round bar etc.

Thanks guys ,i tried the stilsons but they would go over the nut but not enough room to turn it but i have finally got the pump off using the old land rover method ;)

Stilson round a nut! plumbob would be turning in his grave! OK OK we have all done it but make sure its a cheap pair.

AFAIK a pump spanner is only a few quid at a plumbers merchant.

About £16  ,i just used a cold chisel to get it going then did the rest by hand
