Well as u have probably all worked out ??? the difficulty the Whale has is it has to breath ? there fore what it does is
It sleeps in halves
It shuts down half of its brain , which rests/sleeps , then wakes it up and the other half shuts down . The half that is active deals with surfacing to breath
A sort of induced half wit mode ?? may be ??
nature is full of surprises
