Not a bad "one-off" though

I'm not saying it isn't an achievement to win a GS title at he age of 18 but she hasn't grown into a world beater, has she?Not a bad "one-off" though![]()

It's no use her saying the top ten players 'raise their game' whenever they play her - that begs the question, "why doesn't she raise hers?" Or worse, if she has raised her game then it clearly isn't enough to keep up with them.
For comparison: Boris Becker won Wimbledon at the age of 17, then won it again the year after to prove it wasn't a fluke.
Well, Becker was the obvious example and it's pretty rare for a teenager to go and win a major title at the first attempt, so like i said, i'm not putting her down for winning the US Open - just pointing out her failure to launch a winning career on the back of it. Her excuses don't do her any favours, either. It wouldn't be a one-off if she had followed it up, would it?
As for the raising her game comment, I'm not fussed either way about it.
And as for Becker "proving it wasn't a fluke", I could point out that having to dig back 40 yrs for this example shows it to be very much a fluke (in the game of tennis as a whole).
She's still only early twenties, so plenty of time for her to up her game.
But, it is probably more likely that her US Open win was her moment in the sun.
