How much approximatly do you think It would cost for western power distribution to re route their supply cable into the garage at the apex and down the wall to the meter, rather than clipping it down the facia board? Reason being, just had new PVC facias and dont want a big black cable running down it! Also, are WPD fussy about only having 3m of their supply cable in the house? Thanks.

Dont expect much change out of a grand.

Work like this they sub out and the subbies charge what the hell they like.

Steve, are you serious!!???! Thats rediculous.... Its for my girlfriends parents house, to start with her dad thought I could do it as Im an electrician, but I soon explained that we cant touch that side of things!! He has phoned for a price but they said it would be 3 days before getting back to him, and he wanted a rough idea..

Any ideas about the 3m thing..

well you have had your rough price, let us know what they actulka price is

In my experience, I must say, WPD seem to be one of the more diligent and reasonable DNOs in the UK, so for an overhead supply (which I assume this is), I wouldn't imagine they'll ask that much for a change of supply position. Few hundred maybe?

Afaik this normally refers to the distance between the meter and you CU, the rules change between different DNOs depending on how much of the meter tails they will let you protect with their fuse. Worst case scenario is you'll need to install a switch fuse after the meter to protect the cable downstream, or is the meter staying where it is? In which case don't worry.

Western Power would allow any length tails - They where happy as long as they where installed to BS7671.

However, I am not sure on the standing at the moment, as EDF has taken over as meter operator in the Western Power areas, so Western Power are only interested in the service and network, not the metering.

I am not sure if EDF allow any length of tail - I should really ask.

When moving a service, it depends on your SUPPLIER (B Gas, Eon etc) as to if Western Power can move it without contacting them or invloving them at all. In most cases they can, so I guess any length of tail would then be fine.

If however, the supplier wants to do the logistics then they will have to use Wester Power to move the service and EDF for the metering.......usually then involving a good down time to your supply, and you will be held to EDF's rules.

EDF's lads are old WPD lads, and if you know them life is easy. If they do not know you or your company you have to leave a BS7671 cert on site to show dead tests done, and they make you jump through hoops!
