ok, so eventually I bet it will - but is it going to last for a few years without dripping rust everywhere?

Hmm would depend on where you are putting it.. if its gonna be used in a swimming pool i wouldnt want to bet it being there at christmas.. whereas in a nice dry bedroom with good ventilation it may last twenty or so years..

From the wording it sounds like its been painted with a clear paint for protection so will be dependant on your installation, if you scratch/cut the corner then it would rust at that point and laminate the protection.

If you intend to use it outside where it will get wet for prolonged periods then look for something galvanised or overpaint with something more suitable for external use..

thanks; odd I can't find much on t'internet about 'varnished' metal like this.

it's being used outside, to build fence panels using this as the uprights and some smooth 90mm decking boards as the horizontal fence itself. looks very nice, but I do wonder if after/during the winter I'll be mopping up rusty drip marks.

a spot of hammerite might be in order I think

cheers

C- Rap from China - probably

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole if its to be used outside, you can get slotted angle that is galvanised so why on earth you'd buy this from there, go to all the hassle of slapping some hamerite over it then sit back and watch the inevitable rust staining your fence is beyond me.

Pfft, chances are you'll be picking it up of the floor after the first windy day.. not really suitable for a fence post at 27x27mm can probably bend that with your hands..

I doubt it; it's simply being used to join the wooden boards, which are themselves slotted in to concrete slotted fence post, which are themselves concreted in to the ground. so it would have to be very windy indeed.

I looked around for galvo ones, couldn't see any and saw these on a trip there - and then asked the question.
