I remember seeing some of those just out of Stafford in some very old houses
 
No but I bet there's rubber wiring attatched.

Came across some lead sheathed cable made by Pirelli in a listed building recently. The building dated to William III (1697) Those timbers were hard as iron to drill through.

Never seen one. Is that a cartidge fuseholder for the 5A sockets?
 
i can't see any reason to remove it provided its in good condition, the cartridge fuse will protect the 5A sockets just fine should anyone decide to use them.
