Anyone used a vent like this?

why don't you just buy a marley modern tile vent terminal.

all you need to specify is the colour, which are commonly either smooth grey red or brown.

Soil pipes should be a certain distance above any roof. Tile vents should not be used for this purpose.

Why not just fit an air admitance valve in the roof space?

Tile vents are designed for venting SVP's

AFAIK the height requirement is 900mm above an opening eg window or rooflight

You can use a tile vent on the roof slope to terminate an SVP but it must be positioned no more than half a metre away from the ridge. If it is any lower than that the terminal must be extended to at least ridge height.

Sorry jeds I can't agree with that; if you leave aside the question of the tile vent and had just a plastic pipe, plenty of them come through the lower part of the roof are you saying they have to be extended higher than the ridge?

Just got this from the planning portal -

Soil and Vent Pipe

This pipe is used to vent the smells and gases that form within the sewer system and help to transfer the waste vertically to the nearest inspection chamber. The fewer bends within the soil and vent pipe between the highest entry level of a wastepipe to the inspection chamber the better it will work, generally no more than 4 bends. Above this level the pipe can terminate and vent externally wherever is convenient. However if it is within 3.0m of an openable window then it should terminate at least 0.9m above that window.

Ive got the tile and it looks like it will work a treat.

jeds, you are linking to Document F1 which deals with ventilation of buildings and specifically to PSV (Passive Stack Ventilation) which has got nothing to do with SVP (Soil Vent Pipe) venting.

I can assure you that the positioning of a SVP whether by vent tile or just the pipe itself is subject to very little restriction

Sometimes these threads get convoluted and confused. Generally, there is no provision for venting SVPs through a roof tile vent. But BC will allow it as long as you keep the vent within 500 of the ridge. This is because the area within 500 of the ridge is under negative pressure. Anywhere else on the roof surface is subject to positive pressure and this is why it's generally not allowed.
