I have an Ariston Genus HE Combi boiler fitted three years ago and have nothing but trouble with it. the firm that supplied and installed it it has gone bust so the 5 year warrantee is lost. The problems I have had since new have been if I turn the central heating temperature dial on the boiler to less than 70 deg it makes a load vibrating noise and says either flame lift or pump over ride and switches off. Now I have a problem with the Hot water in that it runs for a min or so then comes up with pump overrun, resets itself and runs for a further minute or so and then the same again ad infinitum. As per the other Ariston topic listed my boiler also sometimes comes on in the middle of the night for no reason and I have to switch the power off and on to stop it as turning down the thermostat does not switch it off. The heating sometimes does not switch off at the temperature set and carries on. turning down the temp set does not affect it and I have to switch off the power supply to reset it. (could this be a dodgy control hand set). I am due to have it serviced and would like some suggestiions as the cause, so as I can discuss it with the plumber.

It sounds as though it hasn't been commissioned properly on installation, and has a combustion problem as a result.

The 5 year warranty is with the manufacturer not the installer. Providing it was registered at date of installation. You need to contact Ariston to check the status of this however.

If you disable the comfort function that will stop it preheating it's self
(i.e. when it comes on randomly and switches off)
It's purpose is to reduce the delay in heated water arriving at the tap, in turn to reduce water usage for customers who have water meters.

There is various time delays in the controls, and adjustments that can be made to the parameters. The boiler may not respond immediately to front panel operation. It's difficult to say without seeing it.

I'd recommend fitting the modulating room thermostat Ariston part no. 3318231.

This makes best use of the boiler's next generation control circuit.
The room temperature is maintained very accurately to within half a degree, when these are fitted and the auto button pressed. It also allows disabling of the timer or manual override from the thermostat.

I fitted one in my parents house and it has saved them a fortune from the vokera they had.

As long as you adequately tell the chap what the boiler does and does not do, he should not need any suggestions.

Be aware that a service is a simple routine and assumes the boiler is working correctly and costs about £60.

Your boiler obviously has a fault, as stated porobably because it was never installed and commissioned correctly. Presumably the Benchmark Certificate was not completed either. That would have been your proof of installation and commissioning in respect of the manufacturer's warrantee.

You need a repair and that will need to be by someone who specialises in repairs and is ideally familiar with Ariston and cost about £84. Not all engineers like Aristons as they are seen as less easy to work on. The makers probably have independent service agents who might be a better bet. Or you could take out a service contract with British Gas.

Thank you Tony for all your advise, The fitter did actually fill out an installation form which came with the boiler, but obviously I cannot say whether he did all the correct procedures. The chap I have coming is an ex Gas company fitter and specialises in boilers so he should be able to find the fault. We do have a remote digital wireless thermostat controller which we keep in the lounge, is this what you are talking about. The comfort button is not selected on the panel, this mainly is because I did not quite understand its purpose but I can see its uses if you say it gets water to the taps quicker, because ours take a lot of water before its initially runs hot.
