Hello all,

1) Boiler make / model (gas or oil)
Ariston Micro Combi 23 MFFI - Gas

2) What is / is not happening
I am getting no heating and no hot water. When I turn on the hot water tap I hear something move within the boiler but no flame, even if the hot water tap is left on for several minutes. The pressure on the boiler is currently at 0.4 which I understand is way too low.

I have been doing some reading but I cannot figure out how to actually increase pressure on this type of boiler, so any assistance would be grateful. I read something about a filling loop, but i don't seem to have one or I have one and don't know what it looks like.

3) Has ANYTHING else been done / changed recently
I put the boiler on summer operating mode a couple of days ago, but put it back to winter mode when I discovered I had no hot water the following morning.

4) When did it (problem) start
Following changing to summer operating mode - now back on winter mode.

Sorry if you feel this question has been answered elsewhere on these boards, I did try searching but could not find anything that solved my problem.

Thanks in advance.

:)

Look for a small silver flexible pipe on the underside of the boiler. Towards the left near where it meets the wall. It should have two black or blue plastic taps on either side of the flexi-hose, like washing machine isolation valves.

If the hose has been removed then there may be a similar flexible hose affair elsewhere on the system, with two taps or quarter turn valves either side of it.

When both taps are in the 'on' position you should hear the mains water rushing into the heating system. Take care not to pressurise over 1-1.5 bar when cold.

Oops - I found it. In a deep dark recess at the back of the fitted kitchen cupboard.

Sorry for wasting peoples time

Spot on :D

4 years later this is still good advice/information.

I bled a radiator and the heating stopped (red light perma on the display), noticed a while ago it was only showing 1 bar on the pressure gauge - but now it showed 0.

wouldn't have dared fiddle without the detailed instructions above - Cheers ACOperson and congratulations to the internet.

Hi there, I have had the very same problem. I'm decorating my living room and took 2 radiators off the wall while its being decorated. Now my heating has stopped working and the pressure is about 0.6. I have no idea how to increase it. I don't appear to have the pipe as described above.

Please help

depending on the make/model of the boiler it could have a built in filling loop.

the majority of combi boilers have an external filling loop. that looks like a silver braided hose. it might not have any coloured taps (like washing machine taps) it could be a screwdriver is needed. this could be hidden anywhere under the boiler or sometimes in the cylinder cupboard. i would go for behind the kitchen units first tho if your boiler is in the kitchen. i have seen them under floorboards!
