Above boiler is my brother in laws, and is coming up to 4 years old.

Problem..Keeps locking out, upon ignition spark ignitor keeps sparking, and after about 5 seconds, cuts out and locks out.

I have been out to this boiler twice now, over the past 6 weeks, both times with the same problem, and cleaning the flame detector electrode, has cured the problem, however he has rung to say its doing it again,so theres something amiss somewhere.

We have no MIs,and i cant find any on MTS groups website.

Anyone familiar with these boilers? who can tell me what to check next,im thinking along the lines of the electrode lead,or whatever it connects to at the other end ,possibly the pcb. TIA

Can you describe the problem is more detail please.

Is the gas actually igniting? Assuming it is but is not being detected then have you measured the continuity from electrode tip to the PCB?

Have you disconnected it at PCb and measured the resistance to chassis ( best done with an insulation tester at 500v.

If all these check out the its probably a high value or open circuit resistor in the flame detection circuit OR just possibly dirt/dust on the PCB around that circuit.

Is he a chain smoker or does he burn lots of candles all over the place, particularly on a Friday evening?

CHeck the f.d.electrode is in the right place..
Can send man but it's not wonderful.

The burner does ignite, but the ignitor keeps sparking,so it seems as though the flame is not being detected, and then the boiler locks out.

The first time, i cleaned the FD electrode,as it was quite built up with ash,and the boiler worked fine after that.Thesecond time, although, still clean, doing the same thing resulted in the boiler working again, now hes rung to say its doing it again,so im thinking its got to be more involved than just cleaning the electrode.

They dont smoke/burn candles at all.

I havent got any way of testing resistance to chassis etc etc.

A cheap meter from Maplins is less than £12.

Without one you are unlikely to be able to identify an electronic fault ( even if you had all the necessary skills ).

The first measurement is the continuity from tip of electrode to PCB pin.

I do have a tester continuity/voltage,but not resistance etc,ill check it out when i can get in,thanks.

the problem is the pcb when you have fitted the new one you will see 6 little white pegs on the left of the pcb move 4 5 6 over to the left and it will be fine.
