Hi All,

I've just moved house (20 yr old property) and want to get the artex skimmed and some new spotlights added.

I always thought it was the way to skim first and add spots later. The two plasterers I've had in to quote so far say to add the spots first and then skim so there's no chance of cracking of the ceiling by adding them later.

Any benefit / disadvantage of doing it this way round?

I've done it both ways. It's better plastering the ceiling first, then add the spots. The main thing with that is to make sure the electrician knows exactly where the cables for the spots are.
Plastering around fitted spotlights is not a problem either. Each to their own.
