We are about to buy a house that was built in the 70s. It has artex ceilings throughout that I believe contain asbestos. We will board and plaster most of them but in one of the rooms we want to knock down a wall. Is there any way of doing this without disturbing the asbestos. I don't think this this is a structural wall, there was previously a wall close by,running parallel to it but this has been removed many years ago. There is making good on the ceiling where the wall once was and this lines up with the upstairs walls. I presume there is an RSG in there, otherwise I'm sure there would be signs of problems, there are a further two storeys above. The wall that is there at the moment is really just a partition wall that forms part of the kitchen. Any advice much appreciated.

Whilst over-boarding existing ceilings is nowhere near as messy as ripping down, it is by no means dust free.

You need to knock holes in the ceiling either side of the joists, where they bear onto the walls, so as to mark off their centre positions.

You may also need to do a bit of scraping if there are any proud spots.

But I don't think the wall we want to remove is structural. Is there any way of removing the wall without disturbing the artex? maybe boarding over it before we remove the wall and making good afterwards.
