Astra 16V Thermostat

Our Astra 1.6 16V (2001) didn't seem to be warming up so I thought I would investigate the thermostat - I was amazed at the cost - £38 and that's not even a Vauxhall one. It seems you have to buy the whole housing as the thermostat is built in !

Has anybody found a way round this ?

they are quite expensive. the 2005 onwards ones are over 100 quid!!!
38 quid about average price btw. and a pretty common failure too.
