Hi all.

I have a garden that's been fully decked across multiple levels by the previous owners. The reason they've done this is that the garden just slopes off at multiple angles. I've had some costs for ripping everything up, building retaining walls, filling in etc all to make good long term but costs are eye watering.

What I'd like is a somewhat temporary solution to get through, ideally this summer and next summer. I want the kids to be able to play football etc in the garden. I'm looking at putting astro over the decking. I appreciate this isn't the optimum solution as it can lead to rotting of the decking but it's probably my best option right now.

What I want to know is how to optimise this, is there anything I should put under the astro to help the decking, or to make the turf more usable in terms of not being rock hard etc.

Any advice from anyone who's done this would be appreciated and for transparency I'm absolute beginner level at gardening so may need even basic level advice here

Thanks

E
