At least this government have got a handle on foreign workers.

This government?

"Some 1.18 million people have applied to come to the UK via this route between its launch in December 2020 and the end of 2024"

A Home Office spokesperson said: "This report affirms again that the previous government's decision five years ago to relax visa controls on skilled workers helped to drive an unprecedented increase in the UK's level of net migration, with almost one million people coming here in 2023.

Spot the dates?

I am pleased to see Mottie is calling out the failings of the last Conservative that he voted for.

This government has been in for a year today. It’s not their first day in power but from that first day it became their job to remove those whose visa's have expired. The point is, they are just not checking so they don’t even know. Why not?

Is it that they have the systems to do this, and for some reason can't be bothered. Which seems a bit strange. Or does the system simply not exist. To me it seems like it should be very simple with everything being computerised these days.

The tories had 14 years to screw up the system...

You're still the berating previous labour government from before that 14 years for all sorts of ills that have befallen this country...

You seem to have an ideological problem with spotting where the blame lies ;)

Either way, after a year in power, the blame lies squarely with them.

Here's a clue...

"Fujitsu was a key player in developing and maintaining the Home Office's biometrics system for immigration and border control"

You know, the same company behind the Post Office software scandal

Well if that's your logic then you'll be praising labour for dramatically tackling net immigration figures in that first year then won't you (y)

I'm not interested in assigning blame. Just frustrated at yet another newspaper article which doesn't get to the bottom of things by answering the obvious questions!

Not really. The Tories put a stop on dependants coming over with students, the pandemic is all but over and many Ukrainians have returned home now. Fùck all to do with Labour - they don’t even know what’s happened to many overstayers. They don't even know how many overstayers we have.

Still got your Ukrainian lodgers? (If you ever had them in the first place) ;)

IF those in power really did want to clamp down on foreign workers who no longer hold a valid visa for whatever reason, they should arrive at a public car park barely a mile away from my front door early in the morning and witness many foreigners being selected/picked up by contractors of all descriptions on a daily basis. Last year I needed two strong men to help move a fallen tree right at the rear of my plot and I went to that car park. Several strong looking men of the coloured brethren type stepped up to my Pathfinder and offered their services. I selected two and they earned a good morning's cash in hand before I dropped them off at the bus terminus.
I reckon this was/is just the tip of as very big ice berg of a problem and those in charge must know what's going on in the country.

Just as I thought...

You're ideologically blind to the facts
