Attaching a pull cord switch to a wall light

Hi

I need to attach a local switch (pull cord) to a wall light. This will be a short cord which hangs down directly from the light fitting itself. I was informed by the retailer of the wall light that this is easy to do, but I would still appreciate some advice from you guys.
