Hi all

Im going to be putting a 58w striplight into my attic and my question is: i know all lighting in the house is 1.5mm2 cabling but is it possible to use 1mm2 cable? I know the ccc for 1mm cable is 14A and as im only fitting 1 x 58w that makes total amps of the attic would be 242mA. Is this allowed? (im asking because i have a spare 10 metres of 1mm knocking about but ill only need about 5m max)

Thanks

What size protective device is this circuit on and what is the total load of the circuit?

Thanks for your reply.

Ill tap it from whichever live and neutral is closest. It will be coming off the upstairs lighting circuit. So a 6A MCB and 5 upstairs lights. Non of the lights upstairs are above 60w. Most are the 7w energy savers anyway.

There maybe a reason why 1.5mm T&E has been used, it could that the Zs and volt drop values were to high!

I would do some investigation!
