im looking at buying an audi a4 avant 1.9 tdi and have seen a few 05/06 cars with around 100,000 miles on fairly cheap with full audi history, has anyone got a rough idea how long these engines last or would i be better getting lower mileage and older version. I would do roughly 5000 a year.

Cheers Dave

looked after and serviced regularly, you'll have no problems getting 250k out of the engine

I look after hundreds of tdi engines most die because of broken cambelts and waterpump failure get them changed along with ALL the pulleys and tensioners and youll see 200k

The 1.9 TDI is a good engine, will easily do 250k and the rest.

I have a tuned VW Mk4 Golf TDI (1.9 TDI PD150) that makes 210bhp, I have to admit the engine gets abused daily but its done more than yours, provided you service it with good quality oil and parts you will be laughing.

However at 100k I would be more worried about suspension parts needing replacement.

If your looking at buying an Audi, just remember that "driving like a tw@t up others backsides" is also compulsory with them.

:D :D
