hi all my back boiler is leaking looks from like from a rust spot insurance is coming out to cap boiler off but can i replace this plate where the leak is coming from or is this plate sealed cheers here is some pictures

Urgh....horrible boiler.

Would be surprised if that part is still available, might be repairable if not.

yes i know was in when we moved in unfortunately times are hard so to replace was a no no,but had someone out he said no can do its had it so anyway i need to turn cold water back on i have tied up ball value large tank in loft drained as much as i can from heating system now can i just turn stop cock back on for cold water thanks

If you can remove the plate get it welded up it should give you another couple of years if moneys tight!

If you remove the plate, and there's enough space behind it, you may be able to consider drilling through the leak, and putting a nut and bolt through the hole, with a red fibre washer either side to seal it.

You should be able to turn your water back on with the heating F&E tank ball valve tied up.

Second thoughts about repairing the hole - if it's pinholed in one place there's a chance that the whole plate may resemble a paper doiley held together with paint.
If it does, a local steel fabricator may be able to knock up a replacement part.

right just filled the small cold header tank in loft but it started coming out of the hole in the back boiler so what now any advice appreciated please need to get cold water on thanks

How many cisterns (tanks) do you have in the loft? If there's 2, then smaller should be for heating, tie ballvalve up and water cannot get into heating system/boiler. If you have only 1, then you may have a Primatic cylinder, you wont be able to isolate heating without losing hot water supply as well. :(
