Indeed - and those human 'digestive processes' (and metabolic/excretory processes) are, of course, trying to make sure that as little as possible of those heavy metals from food and the environment remain in the body. The great majority of ingested/inhaled/absorbed lead (and probably most other heavy metals) ends up in either urine or faeces - hence in the sewage works.
You'd think that, wouldn't you? I was shown an analysis of some sewage farm tomatoes a couple of years ago when visiting a treatment plant in the NW, when I asked why they didn't have a roaring trade in tomatoes.
It's obviously reduced considerably, but virtually everyone still has easily measurable blood lead levels, and it must be coming from somewhere!
