how do you do this and which rad do i start at. ie furthest away nearest or the rad thats cold at the bottom. do i open the valves on both sides or just one . help appreciated please.

Start closest to the zone valve / 3-port valve.
But if your problem is a rad with a cold patch at the BOTTOM, in the middle, balancing may not be required. It might be that rad being full of sludge.
