I have seen various posts saying that isolation/service valves sometimes weep after use. Are lever-operated shut-off valves for a domestic mains supply any less likely to weep/leak after use? Both types appear to be ball valves, which presumably have similar seals.

You will never have a problem with one of these:

I have several isolation valves fitted, and never had a problem with leakage at the spindle. Perhaps it's the cheaper quality ones which tend to leak?

WRAS approved have to be of a certain quality and tend not to suffer from the same problem so always best to makes sure they are. As suggested, it tends to be the cheaper non approved type that leak over time.

I always recommend spending the most on ISO/Service valves as possible, it does seem to be true with a lot of this stuff that the more spent the better the quality. You always seem to have warranty recourse as well with the more expensive and trusted manufacturers.

Never had a problem with them leaking but they do seem to seize up.
