I have a loft conversion in progress, I have a loft opening that is 710mm wide. The stairs are spacesavers and land into the middle of the loft. To the rear is a bathroom with stud walls etc.
So I need two balustrades either side of the opening, supported on two sides. In order to make them capable to support the required .36kN/m, will I need to bring part of newel posts down alongside the 200mm trimmer joists? If so, what thickness would need to come down? I've got a max of 45mm to play with, but the minimum amount the better, as the less naroow the staris, the better.
Have also seen ZipBolts, allowing you to just drill down into the joist and fix the newel post to that, guess that's an option?
