hi, when we put on our CH or water the boiler is banging and clicking its loudest in the boiler but can hear it all through the house(seriously it is very loud) then it just cuts out but the pilot is still alight. we have it turned off at the wall at present . it is a thorn apollo about 20y old, the powerhead on the 3 way valve has been changed twice over the years there was no banging when this went, we have also replaced the pump a few years ago there was no banging when this went either. would love a new combi boiler but lack of funds prevents this at the moment so need to get this fixed asap, hubby fixed the valve and pump last time but is lost as to what it could be this time. sorry for rabbiting, anyway hope someone can give us some ideas , thankyou.

Sounds like a failed pump.

See the FAQ on this site to read how to test it.
